[Ubuntu 10.10] gma500 / poulsbo information

Post by fly »

Hi,

just wanted to let you know, that the psb drivers is reported to work with the alpha release of Ubuntu 10.10 as one of those great guys responsible for getting psb work on 10.04 stated:
Ok.. good news!
PSB working in maverick.. a bit of luck sometimes..
Tried directly from a live session (alpha3) installing and modprobing psb drivers.

Only issues to make the ppa was libva versioning (now conflicts with libva inside ubuntu repositories) and xserver-xorg-video-psb should provide xserver-xorg-video-6 instead of -5.
So we should be good with basic 2d acceleration; 3d support and video acceleration might need some work. Please keep in mind, that those tests are all performed on netbooks and not on the fitPC2 which might need some more work-- especially its external display setup is something not quite tested by those guys.

I, for myself, wont be upgrading to 10.10 because I will stay with the now working 10.04 as it is an LTS release. My hope is that Intel (or someone else, I frankly don't care) will release a better driver within the 10.04 life cycle...

Ubuntu 10.10 has now been released [1] and we have a somewhat working psb driver from the users that brought us the patchset for the lucid driver. You can check out their work using the development ppa [2]. Mainstream ppa might work, too:

--mainstream--

Code: Select all

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gma500/ppa && sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude install poulsbo-driver-2d poulsbo-driver-3d poulsbo-config
--develompent--

Code: Select all

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gma500/fix && sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude install poulsbo-driver-2d poulsbo-driver-3d poulsbo-config
Xv is still broken but one of the devs is working on it by finishing ExaMixed support -- this blocks some apps like skype or some mediaplayers. Please keep in mind, that 10.10 and 10.04 are not officially supported by CompuLab. Although the patches (at least in the mainline ppa) are pretty matured, this is NOT MEANT FOR PRODUCTIVE WORK ENVIRONMENTS.

I haven't tested 10.10 by now so I don't know what works out of the box of the other fitpc2 components, but you might want to read the 10.04 thread [4] for some information.

I tried this on fit-pc2 rev 1.4 and the drivers did work when using computlabs xorg.conf. After the psb upgrade I were unable to play any movie (both totem, vlc and mplayer). It complained on xvid mpeg4 version4 codec was missing, but it worked just fine before upgrade. I tried some stuff without any luck and is currently trying to install 10.04, but some "black screen" problems has appeared after psb upgrade :oops:

10.04 black screen: If the psb driver has been working and fails after an upgrade, purge it completly and reinstall. This was a known bug and is/ have been fixed for further updates.
