I bought a Toshiba 1TB 2.5inch HDD, MQ01ABD100, and installed Ubuntu 11.10 server. It is working now as a server. The 1TB HDD itself does not seem to have a problem. I guess it should be reasonable to assume that you can use it for desktop versions, too. However, I'm still having a different problem...

I had the same problem when I bought a new HDD, but solved by changing the BIOS setting. After I changed the OS setting, not exactly sure what it was called, from "DOS" to "OTHER," the installation went OK.
