USB transfer speed

Post by tsp »

Hello

I'm considering buying the fit-pc2 for a low-power NAS-server, but as the internal storage capacity is only 500 GB I would have to use the usb port for extra storage. On my current setup (Asus WL500-deluxe) the usb transfer speed is limited to about 1.5 MBytes/sec and that is too limited for an external hard disc, so I would like to know how fast the sustained usb transfer speed is on the fit-pc 2 when an external hard disc is used and if the ft-pc 2 can deliver enough power to an 2.5 inch external usb-hard disc.

Best regards,
Tonny

Sounds like your Asus WL500-deluxe has only USB1.1 (which has a top speed of around 1.5MB/sec as you observed.)

USB2.0 has a raw maximum throughput of 52+MB/sec. In practice, the highest throughput speeds I have ever seen with USB2 were 33MB/sec.

Around 30MB/s sounds about right.
