New fit-PC2i Really Hot only after 30min

Hi,

I recently purchased two fit-PC2i with 2GB RAM, 160GB HD, and Win7 Pro. Today, I finally opened the package and powered one up to do Windows update.

When I got back from 30-45 minute meeting I touched the unit and it was really hot. Too hot for me to put my hand on the unit for more than few seconds.

Is this normal? I plan on using 1 for video surveillance and the other possibly for digital signage.

Since fit-PC2 is passively cooled heating of the case is perfectly normal.
Temperature depends on load and environmental conditions, but is normally 45C-47C.
There are tens of thousands of units deployed around the world for over 2 years with extremely low failure rate, so you should not be concerned about reliability.
If you wish to reduce case temperature you may purchase the external heatsink.

Thank you for the quick reply. I will let it run in rack and see how it goes. I caught off guard with how hot it got so quick. I got the device for its size so if I can avoid it I do not want to put head sink on it. In case I do need heat sink which do you recommend/where do I buy it?
